Coronavirus Update – Stewart Funeral Home, Inc.

This is indeed a troubling time for all of us and especially for those of us committed to helping families in our communities in their time of greatest need. First, please know that as of now we are doing what we have always done and using universal precautions with regards to a loved one who has passed. We are also committed to protecting our most precious asset, “Our Staff” who works so hard to serve all of our families.

We continue to keep ourselves informed with updates from the District Government and local Funeral Director’s Associations and from federal agencies, ensuring that the information we provide is current and relevant as possible.

Health officials and Mayor Bowser have indicated that one way to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus is through uniformly attempting to limit public gatherings such as viewings and funerals to no more than 10 people. Our sympathies go out to anyone who has the additional burden of a death during this time. Because there are no current restrictions on the manner of disposition or how we honor our dead, we encourage those experiencing a death to continue to work with us in creating meaningful public or private services that meet your needs yet fall within the current approach on limiting gatherings.

We encourage you to visit our website and extend condolences to the families. Remember that you can share your thoughts, prayers, condolences and send flowers, messages and gifts to the family from our website.

Please keep in your prayers those who are affected by this, as well as all the front-line responders, including funeral directors and their staff, as we work hard to ensure as much calmness as possible remains in these troubling times.

We are available to address your concerns. Call us at 202-399-3600.

**Note: Your local and/or state public health officials may be issuing guidance or recommendations that is more stringent that what the CDC has recommended. In these cases, you should defer to your state and/or local public health officials.

The Stewart Funeral Home family and staff are committed to serving you and your family with dignity and respect. We pride ourselves in providing services of outstanding quality that assist families during difficult times. Families frequently express that our services are a great source of comfort to them.

Since 1900, with more than a century of tradition in sympathy and service, the Stewart Funeral Home staff averages over 25 years of association. In 1996, the beginning of the fourth generation of Stewarts joined the company, resulting in three generations currently working together serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan community and other global entities.

Stewart Funeral Home is the oldest continously family owned and operated minority funeral home and business in the District of Columbia. Most of our families served are third and fourth generation customers. We are proud of our history and tradition of providing professional services and expansive community services.
